Pakistan Development Alliance, Aawaz Foundation Pakistan, and Global Call to Action Against Poverty, a protest demonstration was held at Globe Chowk, Sukkur. The purpose of the protest was to demand global financial justice and to appeal for the redirection of the world\u2019s resources from destructive agendas toward public welfare projects such as health, education, and social protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This protest was part of a global campaign taking place in 149 cities across 41 countries from June 27 to June 29, coinciding with the FFD4 International Conference. The goal of the campaign is to raise voices for fair financial reforms, debt cancellation, and environmental accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speakers at the protest included Afshan Asghar (Chairperson, Nari Foundation), Shazia Abbasi (Program Manager, Nari Foundation), Shabana Khaki, agricultural laborer Amna Ghanghro, and other social activists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The speakers emphasized that world governments are spending trillions of dollars on wars, genocide, weapons, fossil fuel subsidies, and authoritarian policies, while essential public needs like education, health, and environmental protection are constantly being neglected. They called for urgent reforms to the global financial system\u2014demands included cancellation of debt for underdeveloped countries, imposition of a global tax on the rich, immediate provision of climate finance, and universal access to healthcare, education, and social security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the protest, lawyer Haider Ali Mehr stated:
“Pakistan is severely affected by environmental disasters. Sindh and Balochistan are repeatedly facing floods, droughts, and economic instability. Despite this, international financial institutions continue to impose conditions of debt repayments and austerity, worsening these crises.”
He stressed that countries like Pakistan must redirect their financial resources toward environmental protection, debt relief, and human development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the participants were PHR Chairperson Samreen Najeeb, working woman Gulzar Khatoon, minority rights activist Aje Kumar, Abdul Waheed, Amjad Anwar, and others, who expressed solidarity with the global movement for justice, equality, and sustainable development.
