Brussels \/ London (Staff Reporter):<\/strong> PPP Chairman, head of Pakistan\u2019s parliamentary delegation, and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that India’s unilateral decisions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty are violations of international laws. He stated that Pakistan wants to resolve issues of Kashmir, terrorism, and water through dialogue with India. Speaking to the media after a meeting with the European Parliament\u2019s Trade Committee in Brussels, Bilawal said that he presented Pakistan’s case before the committee. “War is not the solution to any problem,” he asserted. “We want to resolve issues with India through dialogue.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described the meeting with the committee as fruitful and said past meetings with the European Union have also been positive. He noted that the EU expressed condolences over the loss of Pakistani lives during recent conflicts with India. Bilawal stressed that Pakistan is acting in accordance with international law and that recent violations have been committed not by Pakistan but by one party\u2014India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, during an exclusive interview in London with BBC Urdu\u2019s Hussain Askari, Bilawal Bhutto said that during times of tension between India and Pakistan, national unity is essential. “We wanted to initiate dialogue with Imran Khan for the sake of national unity, but Imran Khan only wants to talk with the army,” he said. “During wartime, the entire country stood united. India wrongly assumed that we were so divided that even in the face of war, we wouldn\u2019t unite. But India was proven wrong.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilawal pointed out that the Prime Minister had even invited the opposition for talks through the Speaker\u2019s office, but “Imran Khan’s politics has always been undemocratic and non-parliamentary. He has never shown any desire to strengthen the democratic system.” Bilawal added, “Even today, Imran Khan says he is willing to talk to the army but not the government.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked whether the PPP could play a role in resolving Imran Khan\u2019s differences with the establishment or the PML-N, Bilawal replied, “If it’s in the national interest, for the continuity of democracy, and for political stability, the PPP is always willing to play the role of a bridge\u2014but only when all parties are seriously willing to engage in dialogue.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, “The PPP\u2019s record is clear\u2014we want more unity in Pakistan and reconciliation in politics. But effort must come from both sides. I can wish for it, but such politics has not been seen from PTI. They engage in extremist politics and adopt extremely hardline positions, which are difficult to understand for a political person.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilawal further said about Imran Khan: “You have been a former Prime Minister of the country. You are a politician. Repeatedly saying that you won\u2019t talk to politicians is your own choice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilawal clearly stated that Pakistan\u2019s position is based on truth and is very strong. Regarding the Pulwama incident, even India’s supporters in the US have admitted that India has not provided any evidence. Meanwhile, Pakistan\u2019s anti-terrorism efforts are appreciated in the US, which possesses information and ground realities about how Pakistan deals with terror groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a question about the Indus Waters Treaty, Bilawal said it\u2019s an extremely important issue for the entire world. “If you allow water to be used as a weapon against Pakistan, tomorrow the same could happen in another country. One day, even India could be a victim of this behavior.” He criticized India\u2019s highly irresponsible stance on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding dam construction in Pakistan, Bilawal said that wherever there is consensus, dams are built\u2014like the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, which is already approved and under construction. “If Pakistan were to announce today that we\u2019re building ten dams, I think it would severely damage our international standing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He warned, “If we accept India\u2019s position today\u2014that it has withdrawn from the Indus Waters Treaty\u2014and begin making preparations accordingly, it would mean we\u2019ve lost the battle. It would be like walking away from the playing field. While domestic politics has its own place, each dam project must be evaluated politically, technically, and economically.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded, “At the international level, India has made a huge declaration regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. If implemented, it would lead to war. If India blocks our water supply, then war is inevitable.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
