Federal Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi turned 48 on Wednesday, October 28, with relatives, friends, political figures and well-wishers extending birthday greetings and best wishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born on October 28, 1978, in Lahore, Naqvi belongs to a Syed family with ancestral roots in Jhang. His career spans journalism, media entrepreneurship, politics, public administration and cricket administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naqvi received his early education at Crescent Model School before joining Government College Lahore, where he completed his graduation. He later moved to the United States for higher education and obtained a degree in journalism from Ohio University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After completing his education, Naqvi began his professional career with an internship at the American news network CNN. He subsequently worked as a producer covering Pakistan and later became the network’s regional head for South Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naqvi entered the media business at the age of 30 by establishing City 42, a Lahore-based television news channel. He subsequently expanded his media operations through City Media Group, which launched several television channels and news platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group’s media outlets include, City 41 for Faisalabad, Rohi TV for southern Punjab, City 21 for Karachi and UK 44 for overseas Pakistanis. The group also launched a local newspaper, Daily City 42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naqvi entered public administration when the Election Commission of Pakistan appointed him caretaker chief minister of Punjab on January 22, 2023. He remained in office until February 26, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his tenure as caretaker chief minister, his administration focused on development projects, hospital improvements and governance-related initiatives. His approach to the implementation of development projects became popularly known as “Mohsin Speed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On February 6, 2024, Naqvi was elected unopposed as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board for a three-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As PCB chairman, he has overseen matters concerning cricket administration, stadium renovation projects and arrangements related to the ICC Champions Trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naqvi joined the federal cabinet on March 11, 2024, when he assumed the responsibilities of federal minister for interior and narcotics control in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His responsibilities include internal security, counterterrorism, law and order, narcotics control and administrative matters concerning Islamabad. He is also playing active role in Pakistan\u2019s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was elected to the Senate from Punjab as an independent candidate with the support of the ruling coalition in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In April 2025, Naqvi also assumed the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for a two-year term, adding another responsibility to his role in regional cricket administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
