Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has warned that Governor\u2019s Rule could be imposed in the province if the law and order situation deteriorates further, urging the provincial government to focus on security instead of political confrontation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at a press conference after visiting injured victims of a suicide attack in Dera Ismail Khan, Kundi said he regularly briefed the President on developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that any constitutional decision taken by the President would be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Governor\u2019s Rule was meant for extraordinary circumstances involving a serious breakdown in law and order and urged the provincial government not to allow conditions to reach that point. Under the constitutional process, the President may impose Governor\u2019s Rule on the advice of the Prime Minister if the required conditions are met. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kundi also criticised PTI\u2019s planned long march to Islamabad on October 4, saying Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not afford political mobilisation at a time when terrorism was claiming lives in the province. PTI has postponed its planned march to October 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He challenged the organisers of the march to cross Swabi and warned that action would be taken against anyone who violated the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The governor accused the PTI-led provincial government of contributing to political instability while, in his view, failing to adequately address terrorism and governance problems in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kundi said all political parties needed to develop a joint strategy to restore peace and contain militancy in the province. He called on the provincial government to prioritise law and order, governance and public services instead of proceeding with the Islamabad march. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said no one would be allowed to undermine the provincial police force and warned that government officials found facilitating unlawful activity would face action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kundi thanked the Young Doctors Association for calling off its strike in Dera Ismail Khan at his request because of the prevailing security situation. He said the doctors\u2019 demands were legitimate and expressed support for resolving them. Governor House KP<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His remarks came after a suicide bombing at a security checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan killed several people and injured dozens, further highlighting the security challenges facing southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
