BERLIN: Volkswagen\u2019s sweeping turnaround plan foresees more than 4,000 further job cuts at \u200bPorsche, German business daily Handelsblatt reported on Saturday, \u200cfollowing a profit warning linked to problems at the sports car subsidiary.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Files documenting a recent agreement by Volkswagen\u2019s supervisory board to \u200busher in the German auto group\u2019s largest restructuring \u200byet propose a reduction of \u201cabout 4,100 employees\u201d at \u2060the brand, addressing an overhead shortfall of some \u20ac700 million ($803.8 \u200bmillion), according to Handelsblatt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newspaper said the cuts would \u200bbe \u201cin addition to existing agreements\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, Porsche management and labour representatives agreed to an additional 5,000 layoffs on top of 4,000 \u200bdetermined earlier, bringing the scope of currently agreed job \u200bcuts at the Stuttgart-based 911 maker to around one in five \u200cby \u20602035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volkswagen declined to comment. A Porsche spokesperson declined to comment on the reported plans of Volkswagen\u2019s supervisory board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parent company can only recommend, but not mandate, \u200bsuch measures at \u200bPorsche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volkswagen on \u2060Friday revised down its full-year margin target, now hoping for 1% at best \u200brather than a previous range of 4.0-5.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u200brevision \u2060was due in large part to a writedown at Porsche, where CEO Michael Leiters is under pressure to deliver \u2060a \u200bcomeback strategy following a collapse \u200bin China sales and a costly reversal of the carmaker\u2019s EV strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
