Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola said he is still learning which players can cope with the \u200bdemands of playing every three days as his side prepare to host Tottenham \u200cHotspur in the League Cup third round on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liverpool have made an inconsistent start to the Premier League season under Iraola, with his side drawing three of their opening four league matches \u200bdespite a Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid, and the Spaniard said managing \u200bworkloads remains a key challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are players who play every three \u2060days with no issues. They are very robust, their performances don\u2019t change too much,\u201d \u200bIraola told reporters on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are other players where the risk is bigger and the \u200bperformances are different. I have to learn who is ready to play games every three days and who needs a rest so their performance level isn\u2019t affected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Liverpool manager said experienced players such \u200bas captain Virgil van Dijk had already shown they could handle the demanding schedule, \u200bbut assessing younger players and recent arrivals would take more time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have some other players, experienced, \u200chave done \u2060it, I know they can do it,\u201d Iraola said. \u201cVirgil can do it, because he has done it before, he has the experience and his performance isn\u2019t so affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the younger ones and those coming from abroad, there are some question marks, for them \u200band for me and \u200beveryone. We will \u2060have to study it case by case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iraola also hinted at changes for the cup tie against Spurs, with Giorgi Mamardashvili poised \u200bto replace first-choice keeper Alisson Becker in goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think there are \u200bfew doubts \u2060with Becker, he\u2019s playing very well,\u201d Iraola said. \u201cI rate Giorgi very highly, I know him from Spain. We tried to sign him for Bournemouth before I came here. For me, \u2060he\u2019s \u200ba very good keeper and he\u2019s going to start \u200btomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the injury front, Iraola said defender Joe Gomez had returned to training and will be available for \u200bselection, while Conor Bradley remains sidelined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
