Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman and Coordinator of the National Peace Committee Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has received the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation 2026 at a ceremony held at the historic Lambeth Palace in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tahir Ashrafi received the award on Friday at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of Lambeth Palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award was presented by Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally in recognition of Ashrafi\u2019s decades-long efforts to promote peace, reconciliation, moderation, interfaith and intra-faith harmony, minority rights and peaceful coexistence, as well as his continued role in opposing extremism, terrorism and sectarian violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hubert Walter Award is one of the Lambeth Awards and is presented by the Archbishop of Canterbury to recognise outstanding contributions to reconciliation and interfaith cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to details released by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Tahir Ashrafi was among the prominent individuals selected this year for recognition across five categories of the Lambeth Awards. He was presented with the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award represents an international recognition of Ashrafi\u2019s long-standing work in peacebuilding, religious diplomacy and dialogue. For decades, he has worked to bring religious and sectarian communities closer together, promote mutual respect, defend the rights of minorities and vulnerable groups, and support peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has also maintained his religious affiliation and Islamic identity while advocating dialogue and harmony among different communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ashrafi has previously received the OIC Global Peace Award in recognition of his services to peace, harmony and cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The OIC Global Peace Award and the Hubert Walter Award are two separate international honours recognising his contributions in the Muslim world and the wider international community.
Tahir Ashrafi is also a member of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League, Secretary General of the International Council of Haramain and a member of the International Muslim Forum. He is also associated with several international Islamic and interfaith organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
