The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has directed K-Electric to immediately stop unnecessary and unscheduled load-shedding and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a press release issued on Monday, NEPRA made it clear that load-shedding on the basis of line losses or poor bill recovery is illegal, directing K-Electric to immediately stop shutting down entire feeders because of high losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The regulator said consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills cannot be punished for power theft or non-payment by others and should not be subjected to unjustified load-shedding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NEPRA stressed that K-Electric has a legal responsibility to provide electricity to all consumers without discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authority directed the power utility to adopt alternative measures to control electricity theft and reduce losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said action should be taken against defaulters and those involved in electricity theft, rather than cutting power to an entire feeder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
