Announcing tough measures against corrupt elements in the Punjab Police, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday gave the provincial IGP Rao Abdul Kareem a deadline of one week to purge the Force of dirty fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chairing a special meeting on the law- and-order situation in the province, she said that corrupt persons should not be appointed as SHOs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stressing that there should be zero tolerance towards people involved in crimes against women and children, the chief minister sought a comprehensive plan so that such incidents could be prevented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She set a deadline of September 30 to equip the police with bodycam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taking notice of the escape of prisoners, the meeting approved the installation of GPS and cameras in prison vans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
CM Maryam ordered an operation clean up against outlaws in Sheikhupura. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IGP Punjab, on the occasion, gave the meeting a briefing on the law-and-order situation in the province, and said that marked reduction in crimes had been noticed as dacoities, robberies, murders and incidents of theft had dropped. \u201cDacoities have come down by 54 per cent; murders by 35 per cent, and bike snatching by 53 per cent,\u201d the IGP said, and added that murders in Lahore had dropped by 43 per cent; dacoities by 32 per cent, and bike snatching by 54 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
