The Cabinet Committee on Energy on Tuesday approved amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023-2027 and endorsed the High Level Design Report for the Integrated Energy Plan 2027-2060, aimed at strengthening energy security and improving economic competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee met at the Prime Minister House under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Power Division presented proposed amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023-2027 covering integrated energy planning, expansion of power generation, supply of renewable electricity to remote areas, cross-border electricity trade and expansion of the transmission network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The amendments also deal with tariff design, energy conservation, system and market operations, risk identification, administrative arrangements, development of local fuel and technology capacity, research and development and digitisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee approved the amendments but directed that further consultations be held with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee also approved the High Level Design Report for the Integrated Energy Plan 2027-2060 submitted by the Power Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the proposed framework, stakeholders beyond the federal and provincial governments will be involved in long-term energy planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan is aimed at ensuring energy security and improving competitiveness in the power and broader energy sector. It will also include a strategy to provide electricity to industrial and domestic consumers at affordable prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government plans to promote low-carbon power generation as well as environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly energy sources under the framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, the Power Division also presented a report on power sector circular debt for the 2025-26 fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Petroleum Division separately presented a report on circular debt in the gas sector for FY2025-26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
