Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has expressed concern over the political situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), saying previous governments failed to fulfill their responsibilities and that his party would work to transform the region as it did Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a meeting of the PML-N AJK parliamentary party in Murree, Nawaz Sharif said that disappointing the people or damaging their trust was not an option. \u201cThe welfare and well-being of the people of Azad Kashmir is our priority,\u201d he said, adding that the people of AJK were looking towards Punjab for development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz said maximum funds should be allocated to AJK and pledged to fulfill the commitments he had made to the people. He expressed confidence that the PML-N would form the government in Azad Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called for the construction and improvement of roads and hospitals, creation of employment opportunities and promotion of tourism in the region. He said the people of AJK, after seeing development in Punjab, expected similar facilities in their own areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz also called for laptops and scholarships for students in AJK and proposed extending the Kisan Card initiative to the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PML-N president congratulated the candidates who won the AJK elections as well as those who could not secure victory, saying the party’s candidates had fought their opponents vigorously. He said some complaints had reached the party leadership, which he regretted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz said he had not expected that there would be any opportunity for complaints under the PPP government in AJK, noting that the state had a PPP prime minister. He stressed that political differences should not turn into personal hostility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPolitical opposition should not be turned into hostility,\u201d he said, adding that AJK had traditionally maintained a positive political environment and that it was undesirable for negative elements to enter it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz said he was saddened by the defeat of some of his colleagues and called for a detailed review of the reasons behind their losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had good candidates. If they were defeated, we should examine the reasons for their defeat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the PML-N had secured a majority in the first two phases of the AJK elections and praised Amir Muqam for running the election campaign with dedication. Nawaz urged party workers and candidates not to lose heart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former prime minister said Pakistan was moving forward and would overcome its challenges soon, stressing that the PML-N manifesto must be implemented in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to AJK’s mountainous terrain, Nawaz said the region required better connectivity and facilities, including helicopter services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He suggested that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif provide a helicopter to the AJK government to facilitate administration and emergency services in the mountainous region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz also recalled that the US dollar was around Rs100 when he was prime minister and questioned how far the currency had fallen afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He criticized the previous government’s slogans, saying they failed to translate into meaningful implementation, while avoiding detailed criticism of his political opponents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz Sharif praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to improve the country’s economic situation, saying the situation was very difficult when the incumbent government took charge but had since begun improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said efforts were underway to put Pakistan on its own feet, reduce dependence on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and ultimately make the country economically independent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawaz expressed confidence that the government’s efforts would help resolve Pakistan’s economic problems and create a more stable future for the country and Azad Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, former Punjab CM Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, and newly-elected members of the Legislative Assembly were also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
