{"id":26779,"date":"2026-08-09T17:35:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T12:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakjazbo.com\/?p=26779"},"modified":"2026-08-09T17:35:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T12:35:15","slug":"turkiye-to-soon-begin-offshore-drilling-operations-in-pakistani-waters-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakjazbo.com\/?p=26779","title":{"rendered":"Turkiye to soon begin offshore drilling operations in Pakistani waters: minister"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pakistan imports around 90% of energy requirements: minister.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ali Pervaiz Malik says\u00a0flow of circular debt had been halted.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Makkah defence agreement as a matter of national pride: Malik.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LAHORE: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik on Sunday confirmed that Turkiye&#8217;s Turkish Petroleum would soon commence offshore drilling operations in Pakistan&#8217;s territorial waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the minister said that the drilling operations would pave the way for significant foreign investment in the energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Highlighting Pakistan&#8217;s energy challenges, Malik said that the country imported around 90% of its energy requirements, while domestic oil production stood at approximately 70,000 barrels per day against a daily demand of around 500,000 barrels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed the need to accelerate indigenous oil and gas exploration to reduce reliance on imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The petroleum minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had tasked a leading international company with preparing a comprehensive roadmap for the country&#8217;s energy sector, which would be presented to the national leadership in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malik maintained that the flow of circular debt had been halted and efforts were underway to clear outstanding liabilities inherited from previous administrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also announced that LPG tenders would open on Monday, saying the government had made arrangements to issue new gas connections to facilitate consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister said that Pakistan&#8217;s next major destination after achieving strategic and diplomatic successes was sustainable economic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Describing the Makkah defence agreement as a matter of national pride, he said that Pakistan had emerged as a net security provider in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Malik, the combined strengths of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s economy, Turkiye&#8217;s technological advancement and Pakistan&#8217;s defence capabilities would contribute to regional stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malik said that the government had taken difficult economic decisions that helped stabilise the country&#8217;s economy, adding that the focus had now shifted to accelerating economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Referring to international developments, he said the Iran-US conflict had created significant challenges for global energy markets, leading to unprecedented increases in crude oil and petroleum product prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite these pressures, Malik said, the government ensured uninterrupted fuel supplies across the country and made every effort to protect consumers from the full impact of rising international prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The petroleum minister said that the government remained committed to providing maximum relief to the public despite limited financial resources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik on Sunday confirmed that Turkiye&#8217;s Turkish Petroleum would soon commence offshore drilling operations in Pakistan&#8217;s territorial waters.
