ISLAMABAD: A day after its members protested<\/a> in different parts of the country, the PTI spo\u00adkesperson on Saturday denou\u00adn\u00adced the government for an alle\u00adged crackdown on the \u2018nationwide protests\u2019 and demanded the release of a few workers detained by the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, PTI Inform\u00adat\u00ad\u00adion Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram claimed a large number of PTI supporters took to the streets on Friday despite the hurdles created by the government. He alleged pre-dawn raids, fabricated cases, and heavy police deployment to stop the protesters, who \u201crejected the government and took to the streets in large numbers\u201d. He claimed the PTI protest proved \u201cpublic power\u201d could not be crushed by using force while condemning the arrests of protesters and demanding their immediate, unconditional release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He dismissed the government\u2019s portrayal of family meetings with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as \u201cconfidence-building measures,\u201d calling it \u201ccynical theatre\u201d. He pointed out that these were the basic constitutional rights, not favours, saying the government continued to subject the nation\u2019s leader to prolonged solitary confinement and medical neglect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PTI managed to stage rallies in almost all major cities, except for Karachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spokesperson backs NA opposition leader\u2019s call for budget boycott<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In his statement, the PTI spo\u00adkesperson expressed full support for National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achak\u00adzai\u2019s call for a budget boycott un\u00ad\u00adless Imran Khan received treatment and his visitation rights were restored. A day earlier, Mr Achakzai, who heads the PTI-led opposition alliance, warned they would boycott the budget session if their demands were not met. The PTI leader also criticised the government over fuel prices. He claimed that after extracting over Rs4.3 trillion through levies, the government now exp\u00adec\u00adted applause for \u201creturning crumbs\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Akram stated that PTI would continue its struggle with \u201cfull intensity\u201d until the stolen mandate was restored, all political prisoners were freed, and proper medical care along with family access was ensured for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
