{"id":21543,"date":"2026-05-06T14:20:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T09:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakjazbo.com\/?p=21543"},"modified":"2026-05-06T14:20:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T09:20:23","slug":"4-killed-in-post-poll-unrest-in-indias-west-bengal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakjazbo.com\/?p=21543","title":{"rendered":"4 killed in post-poll unrest in India&#8217;s West Bengal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four people have been killed in political unrest after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s Hindu-nationalist party celebrated victory in state polls in West Bengal, police and party officials said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modi\u2019s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1997401\">swept<\/a>&nbsp;polls in the key eastern state of more than 100 million people, winning 206 of the 294 assembly seats, according to results announced on Monday, for its first-ever victory in West Bengal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Bengal had been ruled by Modi\u2019s fierce critic and adversary Mamata Banerjee as chief minister since 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Banerjee, leader of the regional All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), also lost her seat in the polls and has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1997948\">rejected<\/a>&nbsp;the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police said clashes between rival party supporters erupted in the state capital Kolkata after results were announced on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analysts say the BJP\u2019s victory in the largely Bengali-speaking state is one of its most significant since Modi was first elected prime minister in 2014, expanding its dominance beyond the Hindi-speaking heartland of north and central India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BJP said two party workers were killed, while the TMC said two of their workers were beaten to death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTwo of our workers were killed after results of the elections were announced on Monday,\u201d BJP state leader Samik Bharracharya told&nbsp;<em>AFP<\/em>, insisting that the party is \u201cfor peace\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TMC, in a statement on social media, reported the \u201cbrutal murder\u201d of two party workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur party offices were attacked in several areas of the state,\u201d TMC spokesman Narendranath Chakrabort told&nbsp;<em>AFP<\/em>. \u201cTwo of the victims were grassroots political workers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A senior police officer, who was not authorised to speak to reporters, confirmed four deaths in clashes and said one officer had been shot in the leg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four people have been killed in political unrest after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s Hindu-nationalist party celebrated victory in state polls in West Bengal, police and party officials said on Wednesday.
