Karachi: A local court in Karachi has held Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) responsible for negligence in a fatal gas explosion case and ordered the company to pay Rs. 30 million in compensation to the plaintiff within one month. The verdict was issued under the Fatal Accidents Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case arose from a 2022 incident in Milat Colony, Orangi Town, where a gas leak led to an explosion in the plaintiff\u2019s home, resulting in the deaths of their parents. Despite multiple complaints about the faulty gas line, no timely action was taken to repair it, the court noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the hearing, the plaintiff\u2019s lawyer presented evidence showing that the explosion directly resulted from the gas leak and highlighted the company\u2019s failure to maintain safety standards. The court also observed that SSGC\u2019s own witness acknowledged the validity of the gas bills submitted by the plaintiff, further supporting the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judge emphasized that the gas explosion occurred due to the company\u2019s inability to prevent it and that any agency responsible for supplying gas has a legal duty to protect citizens\u2019 lives and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
