PML-N stalwart Nehal Hashmi on Friday was sworn in as the new governor of Sindh, following his surprise appointment a day earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput administered the oath at a ceremony held in Karachi. Senior leaders were present at the televised ceremony, including PPP leader Saeed Ghani and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The newly-appointed governor spoke to the media following the oath-taking ceremony, where he said, \u201cI want to give a message to the people of Karachi [..] that we will move forward with political struggle, faithfulness and honesty\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hashmi reiterated that his party\u2019s message was that of peace, love, and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cWe have an entire department for laptops for youth, programmes for their training, loan schemes, and other facilities\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll the federal institutions here will become functional and work for the progress in Sindh,\u201d the Sindh Governor said. He said we would \u201cfollow in the footsteps of our sister \u2014 Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz \u2014 on how to lead a country towards progress\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere will be no political wrangling; our elders wrangled a lot to secure this country for us,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cOur forefathers made many sacrifices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On that note, he claimed, \u201cour father of the nation, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, had Tuberculosis, but he didn\u2019t get treatment for it, because of us\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are political people, and we will resolve all the issues through dialogue; we will not pursue the politics of mischief,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hashmi is a veteran politician who last served<\/u><\/a> as a PML-N senator after his election in March 2015. However, a controversial speech he made in May 2017 landed him in hot water, culminating in his disqualification<\/u><\/a> in February 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Thursday, President Asif Ali Zardari approved<\/a> Hashmi\u2019s appointment as Sindh governor, hours after it was announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recommended his appointment to the post previously held by MQM\u2019s Kamran Tessori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A brief statement issued by the PM Office said that PM Shehbaz met Hashmi at the PM House and decided to nominate him as the governor of Sindh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The surprise move to appoint Hashmi has drawn a strong reaction <\/a>from ally MQM-P, which complained that it had not been taken on board before the decision to remove its nominee from office, calling it a \u201cgrave mistake\u201d by Islamabad and vowing to soon decide its future course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
