Peshawar:<\/strong> Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, has categorically stated that former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, will have to serve his sentence and will not be granted any National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). He emphasized that even if negotiations take place between the government and PTI, the release of Imran Khan will not be part of the agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to Geo News<\/strong>, Governor Kundi said that no formal consultation has yet taken place between the federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) regarding talks with PTI. He added that if serious negotiations were underway, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would have made a public statement on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faisal Karim Kundi expressed strong reservations about trusting PTI, stating that the party has a history of sabotaging dialogue efforts. \u201cPTI cannot be trusted. In the past, they have repeatedly undermined negotiation processes,\u201d he said. He made it clear that any talks, if held, would focus on political and national issues\u2014not on securing relief for the PTI founder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe founder of PTI will serve his sentence. There will be no deal, no NRO, and no special treatment,\u201d the governor asserted, reinforcing the government\u2019s stance on accountability and the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criticizing PTI\u2019s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi said that the party has \u201cdestroyed the province for the sake of one individual.\u201d He urged PTI to focus on governance and public welfare in the province rather than political agitation centered around a single leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the past, the governor recalled that during the 16-month tenure of the previous coalition government, efforts were made to bring all political parties\u2014including PTI\u2014to the negotiating table. However, he claimed that instead of pursuing dialogue, PTI resorted to violent protests, culminating in the events of May 9<\/strong>, which he described as deeply damaging to national stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faisal Karim Kundi reiterated that the PPP believes political issues should always be resolved through dialogue and democratic means. However, he accused PTI of contradictory behavior. \u201cOn one hand, PTI leadership talks about negotiations, and on the other hand, the party founder issues provocative and incendiary tweets about marching on Islamabad,\u201d he said, calling this approach irresponsible and destabilizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KP governor questioned the internal decision-making structure of PTI, asking who actually holds authority within the party. \u201cPTI needs to decide where the real power lies. There is no trust among PTI leaders themselves,\u201d he remarked. He further alleged that PTI has now started relying on what he described as \u201cimported leaders,\u201d suggesting a lack of internal cohesion and long-term political vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on PTI\u2019s proposals for opposition leadership, Faisal Karim Kundi said that the party had nominated figures such as Mahmood Khan Achakzai<\/strong> and Allama Nasir Abbas<\/strong> for the role of opposition leader. He questioned the sustainability of such alliances, remarking sarcastically that it was unclear when these leaders\u2019 \u201cexpiry dates\u201d would arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPTI has a history of discarding allies once their utility ends,\u201d he said, adding that this pattern reflects the party\u2019s broader political behavior and lack of consistency in its alliances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor\u2019s remarks come amid ongoing political uncertainty and speculation regarding possible negotiations between the government and opposition parties. While some quarters have called for inclusive dialogue to ease political tensions, statements from government figures indicate that accountability and legal processes will not be compromised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faisal Karim Kundi concluded by reaffirming that the government remains open to political dialogue for the sake of stability and democratic continuity, but only within constitutional and legal boundaries. \u201cNegotiations cannot be used as a tool to escape the law,\u201d he stressed, adding that political maturity requires respecting judicial decisions and democratic institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His statements underline the firm position of the ruling coalition and PPP leadership that political reconciliation cannot come at the cost of accountability, and that the legal process against Imran Khan will continue without exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
