A formal handover ceremony was organized to mark this important educational milestone.

The ceremony was attended by Director of Secondary Education Syed Safdar Ali Shah, District Education Officer (Secondary) Abdul Rasheed Chandio, District Education Officer (Primary) Anees-ur-Rehman Jalbani, and other education officials, headmasters, and teachers from various schools across the district.

Speaking at the occasion, DEO (Primary) Anees-ur-Rehman Jalbani expressed pride and appreciation for the efforts of the headmasters (HMs), teachers, and staff who played a crucial role in uplifting the standard of primary education in Larkana. He remarked, “Today marks a new chapter in the educational history of our district. The 123 primary schools, along with 86 merged institutions, have now transitioned into elementary schools. This transformation is the result of years of hard work, innovation, and dedication shown by our school heads and teachers.”

He highlighted that these 123 schools collectively recorded an enrollment of over 85,000 students, making them the cornerstone of Larkana’s primary education sector. “These schools were the heartbeat of primary education in the district,” he said. “Their upgradation to the elementary level will not only improve academic continuity but also help students complete their early education within their local areas, reducing dropout rates and improving learning outcomes.”

Director Secondary Education, Syed Safdar Ali Shah, congratulated the education teams and emphasized that upgrading schools is part of the Sindh government’s broader vision to strengthen the foundation of education at the grassroots level. He stated, “This initiative aims to ensure that every child in Sindh has access to quality education close to home. Upgrading primary schools into elementary institutions will bridge the educational gap and provide better facilities, qualified staff, and enhanced curricula for students.”

He further added that such steps align with the government’s education reform policy, which focuses on expanding middle-level education opportunities, improving infrastructure, and ensuring that no child is deprived of learning due to the lack of nearby secondary facilities.

During the ceremony, education officials paid tribute to the school headmasters, recognizing their leadership and commitment to transforming their schools. Anees-ur-Rehman Jalbani praised their efforts, saying, “Our HMs have demonstrated remarkable professional leadership. Through their management, creativity, and community engagement, they have turned many schools into models of excellence. Their struggle and teamwork have written a new chapter in Larkana’s education story.”

He also commended the role of teachers and non-teaching staff, who contributed to maintaining discipline, enhancing student participation, and improving school environments. “This success belongs to all the educators who worked tirelessly for the betterment of children. I extend my heartfelt wishes for their continued success as they embark on this new journey as part of the elementary education system,” he added.

Education experts at the event noted that this upgradation will bring several advantages, including improved teacher-to-student ratios, the introduction of middle-level subjects such as science, mathematics, and social studies, and the development of laboratory and library facilities in the newly upgraded schools.

The initiative is also expected to reduce the burden on existing elementary and high schools in Larkana city by offering middle-grade education in rural and semi-urban areas, thereby ensuring more equitable access to learning opportunities.

Larkana — In a major step toward improving the quality of education and expanding academic opportunities for students, the Education Department of Larkana has officially upgraded 209 schools, including 123 primary schools and 86 merged schools, from the primary level to the elementary level.
