He emphasized that the eradication of polio is not merely an administrative duty but a national and moral responsibility. “We must work today to secure a safer tomorrow. These children are our future, and their health and protection are our top priority,” he stated.

According to the district administration, the anti-polio campaign in Sukkur began on October 13 and will continue until October 18, 2025. During this period, a total of 182 mobile teams, 16 fixed-site teams, and 5 transit teams have been deployed across Sukkur City to administer oral polio vaccine (OPV) drops to children under five years of age.

The mobile teams are going door-to-door, visiting homes, schools, marketplaces, bus stops, and dispensaries to ensure maximum coverage. Meanwhile, fixed-site and transit teams are positioned strategically in high-traffic areas, ensuring that even children traveling with families do not miss the life-saving drops.

Officials from the District Health Department and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office are monitoring the campaign daily to assess progress, identify coverage gaps, and resolve logistical issues on the spot. “Our monitoring teams are constantly in the field to ensure the safety of polio workers and to make sure that every assigned area is fully covered,” a senior health officer explained.

The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the importance of community cooperation, urging parents and guardians to open their doors to vaccination teams. “Every child who misses the vaccine is at risk of life-long paralysis,” he warned. “We must all cooperate to eliminate this disease once and for all. Let’s make Pakistan polio-free.”

Local residents in Sukkur have largely responded positively to the campaign, with parents welcoming vaccination teams into their homes. However, officials noted that a small number of families remain hesitant due to misconceptions. To address this, the administration has launched awareness campaigns through local mosques, schools, and media outlets, emphasizing that polio drops are safe, effective, and essential for children’s health.

Health experts have also underscored the significance of sustained vaccination efforts, particularly in areas like Sindh, where movement between urban and rural communities poses challenges to total eradication. Sukkur, being a key urban hub, plays a vital role in ensuring that the virus does not spread to other regions.

Under the leadership of DC Nadir Shehzad Khan, district officials have strengthened coordination among law enforcement agencies, ensuring tight security for vaccination teams throughout the campaign. The police have been tasked with accompanying teams in sensitive areas to prevent any potential disruptions.

The slogan of this year’s campaign — “Har Bachay Tak Har Qatra: Polio Ko Hamesha Ke Liye Khatam Karo” (“Every Child, Every Drop: End Polio Forever”) — echoes throughout Sukkur City as workers move tirelessly from door to door.

Sukkur (Report by Danish Rajput): The ongoing anti-polio campaign in Sukkur City is being carried out with full vigor and dedication as local authorities intensify their efforts to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
