Khangri — In response to the nationwide call by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), members of the Khangri Union of Journalists staged a strong protest in front of the Pir Jo Goth Press Club demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the brutal killings of journalists Imtiaz Mir and Tufail Ahmed Rind.

The demonstration saw a large gathering of local journalists, social workers, and members of the civil society expressing outrage over the increasing violence against media professionals in Sindh. Participants carried placards and chanted powerful slogans against the culture of impunity, calling for justice and protection for journalists who risk their lives to expose the truth.

Leaders of the Khangri Union of Journalists — including Abdul Qayoom Maitlo, Abdul Rahim Abbasi, Manthar Jagirani, Bilawal Junejo, Ustad Muhammad Ashraf Memon, Kareem Bakhsh Jagirani, Ali Gul Junejo, and Waseem Ali Jagirani — addressed the gathering and strongly condemned the continued targeting of journalists across Sindh.

They stated that journalists who bravely write and speak the truth are being silenced by influential mafias, while the killers continue to roam free. “Those who stand for justice are being murdered one after another,” said one of the speakers, “and yet, the government has failed to apprehend the culprits or provide security to working journalists.”

The protestors lamented that the prevailing situation has created a deep sense of insecurity within the journalist community. Many reporters, they said, now feel unsafe even while performing their professional duties, as threats from powerful political and criminal groups have become routine. Despite these dangers, journalists vowed to continue their mission of reporting the truth and holding power to account.

Speakers further criticized the Sindh government for its silence and inaction, saying that the lack of arrests in both murder cases reflects a worrying disregard for freedom of the press. They demanded that the killers of senior journalist and anchorperson Imtiaz Mir and reporter Tufail Rind be arrested immediately, and that a transparent investigation be conducted to bring all those involved to justice.

In their concluding remarks, the protesters reaffirmed their commitment to journalistic integrity and solidarity. They emphasized that intimidation, violence, and oppression will never deter the journalist community from fulfilling its duty to the public.
