Islamabad, September 9, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 The Islamabad Police<\/strong> has claimed to have arrested 709 individuals<\/strong> in just four months as part of its crackdown on drug abuse linked to educational institutions. The revelation came during a hearing at the Islamabad High Court (IHC)<\/strong>, presided over by Justice Inam Ameen Minhas<\/strong>, in a case filed by the Lucky Foundation<\/strong> seeking measures to curb narcotics in schools and colleges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Progress Report<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In its progress report, the Islamabad Police stated that between January 1 and April 22, 2025<\/strong>, law enforcement seized 255 kilograms of heroin<\/strong> and 126 kilograms of hashish<\/strong> from different areas of the capital. During this period, 689 separate drug cases<\/strong> were registered, leading to the arrest of 709 suspects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Court\u2019s Directions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The court, however, sought further accountability and directed the Interior Ministry, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), and Police<\/strong> to submit a comprehensive report covering the period January to September 2025<\/strong>, outlining specific steps taken to eliminate drugs from educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials from the Interior Ministry informed the court that, following earlier judicial instructions, awareness campaigns<\/strong> had been conducted in schools. Justice Minhas, however, noted that awareness alone would not suffice, stressing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMonitoring is essential. Even children\u2019s lunch boxes should be checked to ensure no harmful items are brought in from outside.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Court\u2019s Concerns on Practical Measures<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Legal)<\/strong> added that Islamabad Police had launched an anti-narcotics slogan<\/strong> to promote awareness. Justice Minhas responded by saying that slogans are not enough:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe whole country hears slogans; what we need is real, practical action.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PEIRA)<\/strong> told the court that directions had already been issued to private schools to actively combat drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IHC ordered the Interior Ministry, ANF, and Islamabad Police to submit a detailed follow-up report within two weeks<\/strong>, after which the hearing was adjourned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
