Sources reveal that the left-handed batting icon has already begun reviewing the board’s electoral procedures and will make a formal announcement regarding his candidacy in the coming week.

Tamim Iqbal, who retired from all forms of cricket in January 2025, remains one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated cricketers. With over 15,000 international runs across formats, he is widely regarded as a pioneer of modern Bangladeshi batting and a role model for the next generation of players.

Reports indicate that health concerns, particularly a heart-related ailment, had troubled Tamim in the latter part of his career. Despite a brief comeback attempt, he ultimately decided to retire earlier this year. His shift toward cricket administration signals a desire to continue contributing to the sport off the field.

Analysts note that Tamim’s presence in BCB could bring fresh perspectives, given his extensive playing experience and leadership background. As a former captain who led Bangladesh in several high-profile series, he has firsthand knowledge of the challenges players face, from grassroots development to international competitiveness.

If elected, Tamim would join a growing list of former international cricketers worldwide who have transitioned into administrative roles, leveraging their sporting careers to influence policy, governance, and long-term planning.

The BCB elections are expected to be highly competitive, as the board remains one of the most powerful institutions in the country’s sporting landscape. Cricket is not only Bangladesh’s most popular sport but also a matter of national pride, and the involvement of a figure like Tamim Iqbal could reshape the dynamics of the upcoming polls.

Dhaka – In a major development for Bangladesh cricket, former national team captain Tamim Iqbal has decided to step into the realm of cricket administration, only months after retiring from international cricket.
