ISLAMABAD \u2013 In welcome news for thousands of pensioners across the country, the Employees\u2019 Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) has confirmed that the long-awaited increase in pensions will finally be implemented starting September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to EOBI officials, the pension increase that was approved in January 2025 will be reflected in the upcoming payment cycle. Pensioners will not only receive their regular August pension but also all outstanding arrears, ensuring that no beneficiary misses out on the increment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the revised scheme, the basic monthly pension has been raised by Rs.1,500. This means that from January 2025 onwards, the pension has officially increased from Rs.10,000 to Rs.11,500. However, due to procedural delays, the enhanced amount could not be disbursed earlier. The institution has now confirmed that the revised sum, along with arrears for the previous months, will be transferred to pensioners\u2019 accounts on September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The increase was approved earlier this year by the federal cabinet, which recognized the financial difficulties faced by retired workers amid rising inflation and the high cost of living. Pensioners, many of whom rely solely on this stipend for survival, had been anxiously awaiting implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For pensioners, this announcement comes as a significant relief. Many elderly citizens had been vocal about the need for a timely disbursement, pointing out that even Rs.11,500 is a modest amount considering soaring medical expenses, rising utility bills, and household costs. Nonetheless, the arrears combined with the revised pension amount will provide at least temporary financial breathing space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EOBI sources stressed that the organization is committed to improving its service delivery and ensuring pensioners receive their dues on time moving forward. They also hinted at exploring reforms that could further strengthen the pension system and expand its coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
