In a startling revelation, popular Pakistani comedian and television host Tabish Hashmi shared that he was once abducted and threatened by workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) back in 2008. The disclosure came during his appearance on a recent Geo podcast, where he opened up about a dark episode from his student days that had never been widely discussed before.

The Shocking Confession

Tabish Hashmi, known for his humorous personality and the host of Hansna Mana Hai, surprised fans with a serious turn when asked about his alleged association with MQM. He clarified:

“I was never a member of MQM. But yes, I did once fall into their trap.”

He went on to explain that in April 2008, MQM activists forcibly picked him up and held him in captivity for several hours.

Hours of Fear in a Small Car

Detailing the incident, Hashmi recalled how MQM workers shoved him into a small, cramped car where he was made to sit uncomfortably for hours. During that time, they constantly threatened him with dire consequences.

“They kept pistols pressed against my head and back, talking about killing me and throwing me away somewhere,” he revealed. “It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. By the grace of God, I was eventually released alive.”

Why He Was Targeted

According to Tabish, the abduction was linked to a university annual function. Before the event, he had received a phone call warning him not to attend. Later, however, he was told he could come but must not go on stage.

This contradictory set of instructions confused him, and before he could fully process the situation, he found himself abducted and intimidated by MQM’s local unit workers.

A Story Retold on YouTube

Hashmi shared that this was not the first time he had spoken about the incident; he had previously narrated the full account in a YouTube show. However, it resurfaced now with more attention, as people were surprised to hear about such a serious ordeal from someone largely known for comedy.

The Bigger Picture: Politics, Power, and Fear

Tabish’s revelation also sheds light on the tense political atmosphere of Karachi in the mid-2000s, when MQM’s influence was at its peak. Many students, journalists, and ordinary citizens often found themselves under pressure, threatened, or coerced by political groups.

For a comedian still finding his way in life, the experience of being abducted left a mark—though today he is able to recount it with a mix of seriousness and relief.

Tabish Hashmi’s Resilience

Despite the trauma, Hashmi rose above his early struggles. From being an engineering student with an interest in comedy to eventually becoming one of Pakistan’s leading late-night hosts, his journey stands as proof of resilience.

His ability to laugh and make others laugh, even after such incidents, reflects the strength of an entertainer who chooses humor over bitterness.

Conclusion

Tabish Hashmi’s story is a reminder of the darker side of political influence in Pakistan’s recent history—where even students and entertainers were not safe from intimidation. While Hashmi escaped unharmed, his confession highlights how political violence and fear shaped the lives of many in Karachi during that era.

Today, as he continues to win hearts with his comedy, his revelation also adds a new layer of respect for the struggles he has endured behind the laughter.
