The visit was part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to ensure the smooth functioning of civic facilities and to reassure citizens that their issues are being prioritized at the highest level.

During the inspection, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister Ali Rashid personally examined the ongoing drainage and cleanup operations. He emphasized that the Sindh Government remains determined to resolve the problems faced by the public, particularly those arising after seasonal rains. “Providing people with a clean, healthy, and improved environment is our duty, and we are utilizing all available resources to achieve this,” he remarked, highlighting the government’s commitment to civic development and public welfare.

The visit was attended by several notable figures, including Member of Sindh Assembly Ms. Saadia Javed, General Manager of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Masoom Shah, Executive District Officer (EDO) Ghulam Abbas Memon, officers and staff of the Korangi Town Municipal Corporation, as well as other local officials and community representatives. Their presence underlined the collaborative approach being taken to address public grievances and ensure accountability in the delivery of services.

Chairman Korangi Town Muhammad Naeem Sheikh reiterated that public service remains among the top priorities of the local administration. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of drainage works carried out in the aftermath of the rains and noted that the system of water disposal was functioning in a reasonably satisfactory manner. According to him, the timely action of municipal teams helped avert major disruptions and allowed normal life to resume more quickly in the locality.

The role of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) was also particularly acknowledged during this inspection. Their staff was present on the ground and actively engaged in supporting drainage and cleanup activities. Chairman Naeem Sheikh commended the dedication of the workers and assured them that their efforts were not going unnoticed. He said, “We highly appreciate the performance of the teams working under difficult circumstances. Ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for our citizens is not only a goal but also a responsibility, and we are taking all possible measures to make that a reality.”

The visit to Qayyumabad came at a critical time when Karachi has been struggling with the consequences of heavy monsoon rains. Flooded streets, clogged drains, and the accumulation of garbage have long been sources of public frustration in various parts of the city. For years, citizens have complained that drainage and waste management systems are insufficient and that the authorities only act reactively after major downpours. However, this inspection aimed to demonstrate that both provincial and local governments are now focusing on proactive steps, improved coordination, and long-term solutions.

Ali Rashid further elaborated that the government is not only addressing the immediate needs of drainage and waste clearance but also working on policy reforms to ensure that Karachi’s urban infrastructure is upgraded. He added that resources were being allocated to strengthen municipal bodies, modernize drainage systems, and integrate new technology into waste management practices. “Our vision is to make Karachi a city where citizens do not have to fear flooding every time it rains. This is achievable with planning, cooperation, and accountability,” he stressed.

Member Provincial Assembly Saadia Javed, speaking at the occasion, also emphasized the importance of teamwork between provincial departments, municipal corporations, and local communities. She stated that it was the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure Karachi develops into a cleaner and healthier city. She acknowledged that challenges still exist, but praised the commitment of both the Sindh government and the local authorities in responding swiftly to public needs.

EDO Ghulam Abbas Memon added that the coordination between various departments, particularly the Town Municipal Corporation and the SSWMB, had made the post-rain operations more efficient this year compared to previous years. He said that lessons had been learned from past difficulties, and strategies were being adjusted accordingly to avoid waterlogging and garbage overflow in future rainy seasons.

The inspection also served as a morale booster for the on-ground staff, who often work in challenging and hazardous conditions during and after heavy rains. The recognition of their hard work by both the Korangi Town Chairman and provincial officials highlighted the importance of valuing frontline workers who directly contribute to the improvement of urban living conditions.

Residents of Qayyumabad and surrounding areas, who have historically suffered from prolonged waterlogging after rains, expressed cautious optimism following the visit. Some community members, while appreciating the presence of high-level officials, urged that the momentum should not be lost after the immediate crisis passes. They called for sustainable investment in drainage infrastructure, transparent use of funds, and regular monitoring to ensure long-term relief from recurring problems.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmation by both Chairman Muhammad Naeem Sheikh and Special Assistant Ali Rashid that the mission of providing a clean and livable environment will continue. They assured citizens that the Sindh Government and local bodies are determined to fulfill their promises and that future plans are already underway to expand drainage capacity, enhance waste collection systems, and improve service delivery across Karachi.

In summary, the Qayyumabad inspection symbolized a step forward in bridging the gap between government promises and public expectations. By bringing together provincial leaders, municipal officials, and frontline workers, the event underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing Karachi’s longstanding civic challenges. While much remains to be done, the visible commitment of the Sindh Government and Korangi Town administration offered hope that with sustained effort, Karachi’s residents could look forward to a future where monsoon rains are no longer synonymous with urban chaos and hardship.

Chairman of Korangi Town, Muhammad Naeem Sheikh, along with Sindh Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Ali Rashid, visited Qayyumabad to review the situation of drainage after the recent rainfall in Karachi.
