The announcement was made by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), the governing body overseeing veteran cricket activities in the country. The much-anticipated tournament will begin on November 21, 2025, and promises to showcase a unique blend of experience, skill, and sportsmanship from cricketers aged 40 and above.

According to the PVCA, the tournament will feature two competitive groups, each comprising six teams, bringing together a total of twelve sides from different corners of the cricketing world.

Group One will include Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, Hong Kong, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This group promises to deliver exciting matchups as it combines both traditional cricketing powerhouses and emerging veteran cricket nations. Pakistan, the hosts, will be entering the tournament as one of the favorites, thanks to their strong track record in veterans’ cricket and the advantage of home conditions.

Group Two features Australia, United States of America (USA), Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, and a special composite team called Rest of the World. This group has a mix of cricket giants like Australia and Sri Lanka alongside teams that are quickly building their presence in the veterans’ cricket arena. The “Rest of the World” side is expected to feature seasoned players from various cricket-playing nations who may not be fielding full squads but still wish to participate in the event.

One of the defining features of the Over-40 T20 World Cup is its age requirement—every player must be over the age of 40. This criterion ensures that the competition celebrates longevity in the sport while giving cricket fans a chance to watch some of their past heroes return to the field. These veteran cricketers often bring with them years of experience, tactical sharpness, and an unmatched understanding of the game, making for high-quality and strategic cricket contests.

The PVCA has stated that the tournament will be played in T20 format, ensuring that matches remain fast-paced and entertaining while still allowing the veteran players to showcase their refined skills. Karachi’s cricket grounds are being prepared to host the matches, with the main fixtures expected to draw large crowds. Cricket enthusiasts are looking forward to seeing legendary players, many of whom were once national team stars, don their national colors once again.

Hosting the Over-40 T20 World Cup is also a significant opportunity for Pakistan to demonstrate its ability to organize major international cricket events. Over the last few years, Pakistan has made remarkable strides in bringing global cricket back to its venues, and this event will further enhance the country’s profile as a safe and vibrant cricketing destination.

The inclusion of teams from North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia reflects the global reach of veterans’ cricket. Teams like Canada, USA, and Saudi Arabia may not have the same cricketing history as countries like Australia, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka, but their participation is vital for promoting the sport in new markets. These matches also provide an opportunity for players to exchange cultural experiences, fostering camaraderie beyond competition.

The group stage matches are expected to be fiercely contested, as only the top sides from each group will progress to the knockout rounds. Fans can expect a combination of power hitting, tactical bowling changes, and clever field placements—hallmarks of players who have mastered the art of the game over decades.

In addition to the on-field action, the PVCA is also planning off-field activities, including meet-and-greet sessions with fans, cricket clinics for youngsters, and special ceremonies to honor cricket legends. Such initiatives aim to make the tournament not only a sporting event but also a celebration of cricket’s heritage.

As the countdown to November begins, cricket fans in Pakistan and around the world are eagerly awaiting the start of the Over-40 T20 Cricket World Cup. With iconic names expected to feature in the lineups, competitive group dynamics, and the excitement of a global sporting festival, Karachi is set to witness a truly memorable cricketing spectacle.

This event is more than just a tournament—it’s a tribute to cricket’s timeless appeal, proving that age is no barrier when it comes to passion for the game. For the veteran cricketers stepping onto the field, it will be another chance to inspire fans, rekindle old rivalries, and show that their love for cricket remains as strong as ever.

Karachi is set to host a thrilling and historic cricket event later this year as the groups for the Over-40 T20 Cricket World Cup have officially been announced.
